Novenas

The Ladies of Charity is a spiritual community committed to the awesome power of prayer. We gather virtually throughout the year to pray novenas and devotions for the intentions of our members and friends. Since we began our novenas in 2020, we have prayed over 100 novenas. We hope you join us in our spiritual devotions.

We will begin our novena to St. Brigid of Ireland on January 23. We will pray this novena from January 23 through January 31, the eve of the feast day of St. Brigid of Ireland,

Saint Brigid of Ireland was an early Christian nun in Ireland and an abbess over several monasteries. St. Brigid was a contemporary of St. Patrick and directly influenced several other future saints of Ireland.  Her many religious communities helped to secure the country's conversion from paganism to the Catholic faith.  She is traditionally associated with the Cross of St. Brigid, a form of the cross made from reeds or straw that is placed in homes for blessing and protection. St. Brigid is the patron saint of babies, children whose parents are not married, dairy workers, farmers, Ireland, midwives, nuns, poets, printers, and sailors.
